Dying for Home

Thinking of the legions of disenfranchised, the refugees,

migrants fleeing from war and catastrophe

dispossessed from their motherland;

forced to run for very life.

The blackness in this bereavement

of leaving the home unwillingly

profoundly disavows and disorients every molecule, sense and thought

in any creature, let alone Mind

severed from all attachment;

familiarity, security and beloveds.

In the blackness,

grieving for bygone states, places, moments;

the physicality still knows where it belongs

even when the heart and mind bleed with loss.

 In the blackness of orbit,

home for the spaceman

is the blue white body-globe

beyond the porthole,

tumbling distantly against the stars

like a joyous seal rollicking

 on the ocean breakers.

As it is for entire humanity

if it would but see, could but realize

this indeed, is truly all our home.
