HEART BREAK
Hearts break for Mother Earth:
her treasure, beauty, wisdom
neglected and abused.
How come her pristine oceans
turn acid and clog up?
Coral reefs bleach to bone
sea-creatures choking on fishing lines,
flesh impregnated with microplastics.
Humboldt current and Gulf stream awry.
The seasons in turmoil.
Tides slurping with refuse,
new islands rising from rubbish.
Rivers poisoned with agricultural refuse,
fertilizer nitrates, slurry, industrial run-off,
and from power plants, fall-out, acid rain;
world-wide - dammed and eroded, polluted with untreated sewage spills;
all incompatible with fresh-water life.
Air, thick with pesticides,
microwave radiation,
sulphur, carbon monoxide, oxides, particulate matter.
Holes in the sky, laden with space junk.
These, freaking out weather systems
tipping eco-balanced, climatic patterns,
El Niño, Coriolis Effect out of kilter.
Jungle and virgin forest decimated,
burned, cut down, mined or farmed.
Where are the honey bees?
Global temperatures withering the ice,
methane and wild fires endemic;
migrating creatures orientation antennae
befuddled by heinous frequencies..
Soil, washed away, degraded with naphthalene,
benzopyrene, solvents, mercury, arsenic, lead.
Enmity, competition, lust and fear
the underlying precursor agencies
poisoning the collective ethers,
breeding aggression, depression
and unloving.
