BREATHING THE HEART
Pulse and breath are sacredly conjoined
working interactively together
every nano-second, life-long.
Not a case of this or that.
One does not exist without the other.
Breath in!
So the heart’s muscle propels the blood
rushing through the weirs of its locks
swelling the chambers
with the gush of its percussion;
telling the story in our wrists,
in the glow in the eye, cheeks a’flush.
Breathe out!
pulsing the tide on and around
bringing the nutrients of light for life
to every cell and synapse,
while carrying away for recycling
that which has done its bit;
back to the soil, by grace of the alchemy
of the trees
- to grow more leaves, more fruit,
sieving the dancing air, enabling
the glorious sun to fire our hearts.
When the outside air
meets the breath of the innerly spirit,
like the collision with racing waters
in an explosion of spray and rainbows,
it merges and blends in exultation
forming a river of purest power;
not only nourishing the local banks
but affecting connecting systems
far and wide.
Breathe for your soul, O human!
For the very life of all;
every child, plant, creature, kingdom
in every heart-centred breath.
