REMIND.COMFORT. INSPIRE.
Remind:
of the horror and fear
lurking in every moment:
the daily dangers, risks near and far
- accidents, acts of God...or man,
and helpless worse, all ending in death
Amen.
And
wonderment at the butterflies wings
the petals of roses, a baby’s toes;
the bounty of provision, the lovely rain.
Lifeforce running through the veins
with joie de vivre:
being part of family, interests, services
places, systems and the Earth itself.
Inspire:
If the breath in our lungs
and the light on our lids
isn’t enough, what is?
Rampant, invisible killing devices
likely - gene-edited, gone awol.
Military trucks full of bodies
roving the darkness.
Pandemic fear.
Or
the people, of a sudden
start to check on elders down the street
(who, In 25 years they have never met)
the young volunteering
- shopping errands, child-minding
dog walking
or befriending the lonely on-line.
others, putting their lives on the line:
medics heading for the disaster zones
carers, every day at risk
folk maintaining front-line services
and community networks.
people tending their own and others morale, families and health;
those with the skills to organise,
or able to carry the burden of decisions:
to guide and lead.
Comfort:
To weep, grieve, feel terror:
shrink, scream with physical hurt
and cringe with agonies of the mind:
all integral parts of human experience,
of being in bodily form.
But
reassurance in eye contact, in a word;
hugs, laughter, a passion or purpose
and the safety in belonging.
The sense of relief, aye peace
in simplicity, clear conscience
in accomplishing tasks, fulfilling duties:
how serenity seeps through the body
during prayer, meditation, stillness
and when focused in the Now.
And the blessing in acceptance,
faith and hope.
In sharing.
