TREES IN DANGER
Concurrent with the loss of greenness
By fire, axe, folly and greed
- savannah, forest, jungle
wood and moorland
squandered, raped, denatured;
for every breath that’s breathed
consciousness of how precious it is
increases exponentially
relative to its scarcity, endangerment.
In
pause
out
pause.
A tiny blob, bubble,
a gasp born in far,
steamy undergrowths,
wafted along stratospheric highways
and over the curvaceous haunches
of rolling sunset seas
through my little window
my flaring nostrils, to my needy lungs.
Taken for granted no more.
Pause!
