ALONG THE RAIL-TRACK
Plums galore, for anyone passing by;
- someone thought to plant
a thicket of damsons along the embankment.
Baskets and armfuls of fruit for free,
to stew, freeze, munch -
and for birds a’plenty.
There’s a seasonal bonanza this drought year!
My! See the hedgerows!
chestnuts and blackberries in profusion;
Hawthorn and Hazel promises autumnal abundance
for avifauna, squirrels and insects
before the next Ice Age sets in.
