LIKE A HIVE

We swarm into cities,

filtering in ethnic groups, like-minded in lineage and faith,

 migrating by geo-necessity

to safer spots of wherewithal:

is community and company

more precious and workable

in the long-term

than immediate real-politique -

the cruelty of unseen agendas?

In traditional eras and life-styles

the tribal nature of clans, families

and  customs

ensure social cohesion and sense of place:

roots, origins, solidarity and belonging.

Avaunt ghettoes, over-flow camps

of refugees or survivors:

unwanted souls with nowhere to go,

reminiscent of Siberian gulag enclaves

and reservations for the enslaved or disenfranchised.

When entire populations are adrift,

from wars and every sort of disaster,

all underlying principles and policies fall apart, rot or decompose.

Some bees are sole operators,

out-sourced mutant survivors, ostracized avatars,

who butt the trend, don’t colonise;

yet the homing instinct is endemic

even so and if

their home-base and goal is heaven:

the Above and Within

 - destiny for all.

We gather

in gregarious collectives of Kinds.

down the street, next door, upstairs ensembled, enmasse:

enlarged families and communal groups

networking webs and matrices

multifareous or specialist,

based on skill, belief, conditioning

and genes.

exclusive or inclusive.

Diversity is a wondrous, creative seed

thrown into cultures of homogenuity

by chaos and randomness:

- the fresh blood, evolving look,

transformative upgrade,

unthought blendings and mergers

of polarities, differences, paradoxes.

It’s called growth - growingness:

how things age, mature, adapt, change - and replicate.

Alchemical stages as well as chemical processes.

Meanwhile,

homeostasis is kept alive and ticking over

by our love of the boring Norm:

the everyday instinct for routine, rhythm, with the solace of company,

familiarity and pattern.

Besides our curiosity and disruptive drive

for variety, excitement, information!
