Fifty Years Agorn

So they gathered
 in their hundreds of thousands
footloose pilgrim dreamers and seekers
in a collective surge for new beginnings;
reacting to napalm bombing,
assassinations of peace activists,
consumerism, corruption, inequality
- animal testing, the thraldom of need.

How many still march and wave banners
freely thinking, loving, smoking, sharing
still sing and dance,
wild sleep and swim
telling old yarns to wide-eyes little ‘uns
of times when money mattered not.
When provision fell out of the heavens
like manna
 - imagine boiling thousands of eggs!
As sane folk rolled in the mud, rejoicing;
drums chorused by thunder,
faces alight with joy.
