Where to?!

The taxpayer? The ancestors?

Or the pots of gold in treasury vaults

 - no more -

holding up illusionary exchange rates

now untethered, gone awol, sky high.

Or the printing presses quantifiably

rolling out paper substitutes.

To pass the can onto future generations

the children, the community

 - or, inadvertently maybe,

starve those out of sight.

 

Sometimes, for the daily waged

it is sheer survival, food for mouths.

Immediate. Cause and effect.

Sometimes, for the relatively employed

 it is stretched a bit:

salaries, utility bills, insurances

or  othertimes longer, via mortgages, inheritances, savings and property.

 

Following noses, rats race straight

to political elites, mafia syndicates,

where privileges’ presumptions reign:

offshore hidey-holes,

transactional fiddles and small-print.

And the populace’s complicity

 - intent on scaling those same heights

of security, status, clout and opportunity.

Not just competitive

not just greed

not just survival

but the fear of not having, not knowing;

-  not having props, company, backup

nor certainty, faith

 or something to hope for.

 

Telling signs, for sure,

those sudden or discreet changes

of circumstance, residence, belief

or withdrawals, fronts and attitude-shifts.

But the roots lie deep,

deep in childhood conditioning,

karmas’ comeuppances,

and reactions to past horrors

 or future threats.

Whose to blame?

The perpetrators of ancient horrors!

Whose to judge….dear God…?

 

Through history, we build legal systems

for just this reason:

on behalf of divine progenitors

or concepts of equity, principles of truth.

Intuition, silence, timing disregarded.

 

But the clever-clog lot

aquisitionally smart and savvy

congenitally deficient in sense

seem most inclined to salvage the Self

along with allied appurtenances,

personal interests and tribe,

unable to think or see big or long term;

in terms of community, of stewardship.

Rationalisation-ruled

Conscience-bereft.

 

It all leads to the motive, bruv!

-if not subsumed by

mindless automaton-hood,

reactive instinct and conditioning,

Machiavellian cunning, supreme:

unholy  greed, sanctified.

It all comes from the way brains work:

how neurones, entwined with senses

sprout ideas and images

responding  to archetypal terrors

of the collective unconscious

and precedence of individual survival.

 

Let’s knock down the wall

between the power and the money:

No 10 and No 11!

Get hands on the coffers

to save the welfare state

 - if there is one.
