THE SULKS
Adolescent behaviours
recur in second childhood,
so it seems!
Ancient, imprinted habits and patterns get re-cognised;
This is what it really was, is…
I was an expert
- my line of least resistance
was head-on, regardless.
The wretched child - not listening:
the youngster, dragging feet:
being slow, patient parents said.
Enabled, with sensible allowance
the liberties of exploration:
the only thing for sure
was what was not liked or wanted -
pushing many buttons,
to find out.
Escape strategies evolved:
how to avoid, back out, evade - contrive or deceive.
Reactions were Distraction,
being funny, idle or greedy,
a social diversion.
Getting lost on a horse or
in my head,
adventuring freely, ad lib
seeking the shadow-spheres of questions, darkness and
novelty;
baulking at rebuttals or restrictions,
whilst innocent of fear or rage
and wilfully ignorant of
what purpose or passion meant
- let alone love, stars, trust.
So much to find, miss or ignore -
balance, presence, joyfulness
- alot to sulk about.
